Breast Health

In Ottawa the Ottawa Hospital Breast Health Centre sees more than 30 thousand women per year.

·        The number of patients has increased by 40% since opening in 1997

·        Breast imaging and breast procedures, including biopsies has increased by 175%

·        This year alone, another 1,000 women in our region will be diagnosed with breast cancer
These numbers keep climbing and much of this could be avoided with proper diet and some simple lifestyle changes.

Diagnostic testing including Mamography and the use of Digital Tomosynthesis (3D imaging) are on the rise and are being promoted as “Safe”. In fact more studies are being conducted and are showing the opposite is true.

An article posted by Dr. Mercola states the following:
Mammograms Have 'Limited or No Effect' on Breast Cancer Deaths:

“Recent studies suggest mammography screening is not effective in reducing your risk of dying from breast cancer and in fact, screening creates breast cancer patients out of healthy women who would never have developed symptoms”.

Story at-a-glance

·         New research showed mammograms have little or no influence on the number of women who die from breast cancer

·         Past research also found the reduction in mortality as a result of mammographic screening was so small as to be nonexistent—a mere 2.4 deaths per 100,000 person-years were spared as a result of the screening

·         Due to false positives, leading to unnecessary and harmful invasive procedures like biopsy, surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, mammograms often cause more harm than good.
Statistics are from The Ottawa Hospital Foundation
